4D MEDIA COFA runs a class in Animation in Film and Multi Media Computing.
This is part of a three year BFA undergraduate course.
The Animation class trains students in traditional animation skills
and how to apply these to multi media computing. For instance the development
of a keen sense of timing and weight in movement are stressed to enhance
the skill of 3D computer animators. The workshops devote time to pixilated
animation of the body as a starting point to develop a personal awareness
of movement and timing.
Other areas covered by the class are Landscape sculptural animation,
continuous draw techniques, life sized collage, Macro media director animation
and interactive scripting, model building, 3D computer animation, plus
others computer techniques. Extermination is stressed as the development
of a personal style and technique.
Most methods are then applied to Multi media as an output medium. (although
film and video post production techniques are covered briefly in the class
they are dealt with in more detail in other classes in the course) From
the end of 1995 the classes work is to put onto an on-going interactive
model.
The model will be accessed on the WWW COFA home page (http://www.hepworth.cfa.unsw.edu.au)

ANIMATION EDUCATION
Store Soendervoldstraede 4, 1419 Copenhagen K, Denmark.
Tel: +45 3157 6500, Fax: +45 3157 6510.
Head of department: Gunnar Wille.
Four years education in animation film directing. 4-6 students in every
second year.
The National Filmschool of Denmark has chosen to aim at the education
of animation film directors because we have noted an expanding production
of animation films. The European market has a possibility to get hold of
a larger part of this global expansion. Improved narration technique and
far-seeing producers who are able to set new standards for international
cooperation are the keys to the future.
THE TEACHING: Drawing, animation, film analysis, etc. A mixture
of lectures, screenings and analysis supplemented by short tests and practical
exercises, primarily realized within each individual course.
Seminars: The students concentrate on one single subject. The
teaching consists primarily of screening supplemented by lectures and interviews.
Part of this teaching is joint, which means that all the filmschool students
attend.
Workshops: Periods of concentrated guest teacher lessons either
on current productions or projects designed individually for the teacher
depending on his/her skills.
Penneprøver("Pen-tests"): are the central tests in connection
with the lessons in narrative structure and research into the basic film
language. The students are given tests in which conditions and rules are
defined, and where the pedagogic aim for each test is specified. The teacher
acts as supervisor during the process and as a critic of the final product.
